Brother and sister duo want to redefine dining in Pretoria

What started out as an idea to create an alternative social experience in Pretoria where guests enjoy scrumptious food cooked over open fire and great music in an engaging, vibrant and warm setting, is now growing into a movement called Mokete. The next Mokete takes place on 3 September 2017 at the Fire and Wine Venue in Pretoria East.

Founded by brother and sister duo, Tebogo and Refilwe Mphane, Mokete is a social dining experience centred around fusing traditional and non-traditional elements Рin terms of cuisine, d̩cor and music. Guests first meet and rub shoulders in the beer garden, then move into the Wine Barn where they feast on a decked-out table. The rest of the day is filled with music, dancing and laughter and ends with guests huddling around the bonfire.

“Entertaining family and friends is something we’ve always loved to do so we decided to extend the invite to more people. Hence the name Mokete, a Sotho word which means ‘a celebration’ where everyone is invited to feast, sing and dance. This will be our third event. We go out of our way to create a tailor-made experience that makes our guests feel like they are being entertained by family”, says Refilwe.
