We can’t wait for AFI Fashion Week, which heads to Cape Town
next month. It sounds like it will be a feast for those who like things –
especially beautiful things!
African Fashion International (AFI) said on Tuesday it was relaunching
its flagship events as AFI Cape Town Fashion Week and AFI Joburg Fashion Week.
With the rebranding comes some innovative, funky ideas to complement the finest
threads in the country.
The AFI said the continent’s fashion greats would hit the streets
of Cape Town from 21 to 24 March for a fusion of
fashion, art and design.
“Breaking with tradition, AFI Cape Town Fashion Week walks
off the ramp and through the Mother City’s most breath-taking landscapes and
curated spaces, to reimagine ways to interact with luxury fashion, art and
design and to be at the forefront of the global fashion stage,” the AFI said.
AFI chair Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe said the Cape Town event
was yet another chance to show the world what African fashion is made of.
“The global north has always been inspired by Africa. Following
its recognition with the Franca Sozzani award in New York, AFI is uniquely
positioned to propel African fashion onto the global stage,” Moloi-Motsepe said.
AFI Cape Town will showcase up-and-coming art directors to “capture
the local fashion scene and stories, while uncovering fresh talent.”
