Kgomotso Ranta has spent a long time looking for the perfect piece of jewellery. Even though she hasn't found it yet, her search has led her to another important discovery.
Eight months later, Kgomotso's creations were available in the Gorgeously Bold Boutique in Midrand, Johannesburg.
"Seoks Beads was inspired by a beautiful beaded piece that I loved but couldn't afford," said the 39-year-old fine arts and graphic design graduate.
Kgomotso says she strives to deliver "creative yet practical pieces".
"The pieces are inspired by the world and colours around it, be it beautiful furniture, architecture, beautiful patterns, etc. They are kept simple, but make very bold statements and accentuate any outfit," says Kgomotso, who is in the final year of her MBL degree at Unisa.
"All the pieces are handcrafted, mixing ethnic, natural wooden beads with modern glossy or metallic materials to keep the designs edgy and sharp."
She says Seoks has grown in leaps and bounds over the first nine months, largely through social media and word of mouth.
"There are many entrepreneurs in Midrand and they have inspired Seoks Beads to push forward. There is definitely a gap for beautiful accessories to complement these businesses in our Midrand community.
"The company plans to extend its product line and include other accessories like bags, scarfs, etc. We also aim to grow by targeting more strategic channel partners who will help Seoks Beads penetrate and reach an even larger market.
"Ultimately, Seoks Beads will expand and create employment for the community while sharing the skill in the process."
